The Leather Masked Ball is the premiere annual dance party and charity event of South Florida's Leather Community.
This event gets more awesome every year with great venues, celebrity DJs, over-the-top entertainment and the hottest men on the planet.
And it's more than just a good time.
This year we have pledged $10,000 to initiate a Gay Teen Suicide Prevention Program at Broward House, one of the most respected social service agencies in the area. We are proud to be part of the multi-faceted effort to address Gay Teen Suicide that has recently received widespread attention with programs like "It Gets Better".
In 2010 The Leather Masked Ball raised $10,000 for YGM Free, a program at the Pride Center modeled on their successful HIV Prevention programs. Our grant helped create a new program to reach out to young gay men with the goal of preventing crystal meth abuse in our community.
We have also committed to another $10,000 grant to THE LEATHER ARCHIVE AND MUSEUM for the preservation of the leather lifestyle history, archives and memorabilia for historical, educational and research purposes. In recent years The Leather Masked Ball has contributed 5% of Leather Archive and Museum's annual operating budget.
These grants will bring to more than $110,000 the total donated to community non-profits by the all-volunteer team that has run The Leather Masked Ball since 2006.
Early in 2006, Eric Lawrence and his partner, Ira C. Smith, brainstormed on how they could bring the leather/fetish community together. The result was the creation of The Leather Masked Ball.
